Giro d'Italia: Pogačar wins stage eight
Teammates lead Pogačar to victory
Pogačar's teammates worked hard to get him back into the peloton after he was dropped early on.
Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) won stage eight of the Giro d'Italia with a superb performance on the 152km ride from Giovinazzo to Vieste.
After being dropped early on, Pogačar's teammates worked hard to get him back into the reduced peloton with Rafal Majka. Pogačar was then led up by his teammates and while his own expected attack never materialized he was able to follow when Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) attacked with 13km to go.
"The teammates wanted to go for the stage win as soon as we survived the first long categorised climb," said Pogačar.
